Tokelau, 1997

Tokelau is a small dependent territory of New Zealand, it is located in the South Pacific Ocean and is formed by the atolls Atafu, Fakaofo and Nukunonu, which together form a portion of territory of about 10 square kilometers. It is located 480 kilometers north of the state of Samoa and has a population of approximately 1,400 inhabitants.
Teletok, also known as Telecommunications Tokelau Corporation, is the only local telecommunications company on the island of Tokelau and started a public telephony trial in 1997 using the magnetic cards produced by the Japanese Anritsu, similar to those already used in Australia. For the occasion, two cards were issued, one for $ 5 (5,000 print run) and one for $ 20 (4,000), but the field trial did not follow and the project was abandoned.
