Bonaire is an island located in the Caribbean Sea, facing the coasts of Venezuela, which until 2010 was part of the Netherlands Antilles, and currently constitutes a special municipality of the Netherlands. In 1987 a public telephone service based on the Landis & Gyr optical cards was installed on all the islands. The first two cards supplied to Bonaire were two ordinary gray ones of 60 and 120 units, without a side notch, and codes 709B and 709G respectively. 1,000 were produced each. Later, other cards of the same type were issued, but of various colors, which were used until 1996, when the phones based on chip cards were installed.
